Het stadhuis staat al sinds de 18e eeuw op de Place Stanislas. De grote gevel, versierd met het wapen van Stanislas en het wapen van de stad Nancy, sluit het voormalige koninklijke plein af.
De deuren komen uit op een peristijl die leidt naar de hoofdtrap, versierd met een smeedijzeren leuning uit één stuk, een waar meesterwerk van Jean Lamour.
De trap, waarvan de muren versierd zijn met fresco's van Girardet, leidt naar de Salon Carré, een salon in Italiaanse stijl, die voorafgaat aan de Grand Salon.
