Prima della Rivoluzione, la piazza ospitava una fontana rettangolare e una casa Chanoinesse, che furono demolite durante la ristrutturazione. Il sindaco Stanislas Bresson si impegnò allora a ristrutturare la Place du Collège, oggi nota come Place de Mesdames. Nel 1828 fece costruire l'attuale fontana.
Sebbene la vasca sia stata completamente ricostruita nel 1993 secondo il progetto originale, la vasca in ghisa è stata accuratamente conservata. Contribuisce al carattere storico e al fascino senza tempo di questa piazza emblematica.
