Situato nel cuore del Périgord Vert, il bacino di Miallet è stato creato tra il 1988 e il 1992 per sostenere la scarsa portata d'acqua dei fiumi Côle e Dronne e consentire così l'irrigazione delle colture cerealicole.
Nel 1998, il sito è stato classificato come Area Naturale Sensibile (ENS) e, al di là della sua vocazione iniziale, consente la conservazione di specie acquatiche e la presenza regolare di uccelli acquatici stanziali o migratori.
Con un sentiero di circa 8 km (PDIPR) intorno al bacino, la diga è un luogo per passeggiate e uscite didattiche (sentiero interpretativo, osservatorio ornitologico, ecc.)
