Il passo si trova sul Cammino di Santiago e culmina a 1308 m sulle alture del villaggio di Lajo, al confine tra l'Alta Loira e la Lozère.
Il "col de l'homme mort", chiamato anche "col de l'Hospitalet" in ricordo di un ospizio di cui si conosce l'esistenza nel XIII secolo. Questo ospizio non esiste più, ma la fontana di San Rocco, che si dice sia miracolosa, ne perpetua la memoria e suscita ancora molta devozione
A poche centinaia di metri, in direzione Lozère, si trova la chiesa di Saint Roch.
