De pas ligt op de Camino de Santiago en culmineert op een hoogte van 1308 m op de hoogten van het dorp Lajo op de grens tussen de Haute Loire en de Lozère.
De "col de l'homme mort" ook wel "col de l'Hospitalet" genoemd ter herinnering aan een hospice waarvan bekend is dat het in de 13e eeuw bestond. Dit hospitium bestaat niet meer, maar de fontein van Saint Roch, waarvan wordt gezegd dat hij wonderbaarlijk is, vereeuwigt zijn herinnering en wekt nog steeds veel devotie op
Een paar honderd meter verderop in de richting van Lozère staat de kerk van Saint Roch.
