Phalsbourg, luogo di nascita di Emile Erckmann. Città fortificata in arenaria rosa, Phalsbourg conserva ancora preziose testimonianze del suo orgoglioso passato militare: caserme, polveriere, la Porte de France a ovest e la Porte d'Allemagne a est, che segnano i confini della città in una magnifica architettura vaubiana. La città di guarnigione fu fortificata da Vauban nel 1680.
