Il canale dei mulini, che va da Vieux-Thann a Wittelsheim, esiste fin dal Medioevo, ma è stato costruito solo nel 1854 ed è stato gestito dall'unione dei mugnai.
Nel XIX secolo, il canale azionava una dozzina di mulini e forniva l'energia idraulica necessaria per il funzionamento dell'industria artigianale: mulini per la farina, mulini per l'olio, mulini per la carta, ecc.
