Nota un tempo come Place du Marché nel 1829, in seguito Place Neuve , assunse il suo nome attuale nel XIX secolo, ispirato all'antica parola dialettale erbe (verdure/erbe aromatiche).
Questa piccola piazza, incastonata tra Rue Saint-Michel e Rue des Marins, un tempo era la piazza del villaggio dedicata al commercio di verdure ed erbe aromatiche.
Gli ombrosi platani , una piccola fontana chiamata Fontaine de la Mentonnaise al centro, circondata da panchine in pietra e orlata da accoglienti terrazze di caffè e ristoranti , fanno sì che questo luogo respiri l'atmosfera mediterranea.
