Il tempio fu edificato nel XIV secolo , adiacente all'enorme monastero carmelitano dell'epoca, edificato intorno al XII secolo. Dopo i primi interventi nel 1514, la chiesa venne completamente ristrutturata nel 1633. Il monastero venne più volte ristrutturato fino a quando venne demolito nel 1905 per edificarvi una scuola.
La chiesa è un bell'esempio di arte barocca con due ingressi: il primo è nella facciata principale, rifatta nel XIX secolo; il secondo è un elegante portale barocco in pietra di bel disegno.
Accanto alla facciata secondaria si trova il campanile in pietra del XVIII secolo .
