Il pompaggio 'Leemans' è uno dei 2 pompaggi con cui è stata prosciugata la Wieringermeer. Differenza di livello di 5,5 metri.
Nel 1926 è iniziata la bonifica della Wieringermeer. La diga lunga 18 chilometri è stata completata nel 1930. Per il drenaggio della Wieringermeer, alla fine degli anni '20 furono costruiti due pompaggi, precisamente:
pompaggi Lely, un impianto elettrico con tre pompe centrifughe orizzontali vicino a Medemblik e
pompaggi Leemans, un impianto diesel con due pompe centrifughe verticali vicino a Den Oever.
La scelta di due tecniche diverse, elettricità e diesel, è stata fatta consapevolmente. In tempi di scarsità di diesel, il Lely poteva svolgere il lavoro e, nel caso di un'interruzione di corrente, il Leemans era ancora disponibile.
