Si trova a nord-est di Rijs e a nord di Oudemirdum, sotto la quale ricade formalmente. Schouw è situata presso le foreste di Gaasterland e sul lato sud del fossato e dell'area naturale de Wyldemerk, che è anche chiamata Schouw. Il borgo è nato nel punto in cui si incontrano il canale Spookhoekstervaart e il canale Van Swinderenvaart. Nel 1844 si parlava di una casa vicino al traghetto e da lì è nato il borgo. Schouw è un'altra denominazione per un traghetto e da questo deriva anche il nome del luogo. Nel 2018 il borgo è composto da quattro case, erano cinque per un certo periodo.
