Sulla rotonda dove la Almersdorperweg e la Westfriese Omringdijk si incrociano, deve esserci stata Almersdorp nel medioevo. Dopo la devastante inondazione di Sant'Onofrio nel 1334, una parte di Almersdorp scomparve tra le onde. Il villaggio è stato progressivamente spostato verso sud a causa delle alluvioni, fino a raggiungere la sua ultima posizione nel sedicesimo secolo. Alla fine, il villaggio è scomparso.
Nel luogo dove probabilmente si trovava un tempo il centro di Almersdorp, ora sorge un monumento in memoria del scomparso Almersdorp.
