Hooge Crater Cemetery werd in oktober 1917 gestart, toen Hoge bij het begin van de Derde Slag bij Ieper in geallieerde handen was gevallen. Na de wapenstilstand werd de begraafplaats uitgebreid met zo’n 5800 graven uit slagvelden en kleinere begraafplaatsen in de buurt. Opmerkelijk is dat de Stone of Remembrance, vooraan op de begraafplaats, in een cirkelvormige diepte is geplaatst: een symbool voor de vele kraters die hier in de omgeving zijn geslagen.
