Marvin Gaye heeft een tijdje tijdens de jaren 80 in Moere gewoond. De concertpromotor & Oostendenaar Freddy Cousaert, nam Gaye onder zijn hoede toen hij in Londen zat, berooid, aan cocaïne en sex verslaafd. Freddy Cousaert trok hem van de drugs weg en zette hem opnieuw op het juiste spoor.
De soulzanger verbleef in deze deelgemeente van Gistel in de indrukwekkende woning, het Witte Huis. Het huis is nu een geklasseerd monument omwille van de speciale veranda's . Marvin Gaye wou de woning kopen omdat ze "good spirits" had. De nummers Sexual Healing en Midnight Love werden hier geschreven.
Vanuit Belgie maakt hij zijn comeback door het album Midnight Love (1982) met deze single 'Sexual Healing'.
In 1984 keerde hij terug naar Amerika om zijn leven daar weer op orde te krijgen. In april van dat jaar werd hij in Los Angeles na een ruzie door zijn eigen vader doodgeschoten.
