Het meest opvallende bouwwerk is de gotische Onze-Lieve-Vrouwbasiliek, waaraan gebouwd werd van 1240 tot 1544 en waarin het bekende beeld van Onze-Lieve-Vrouw met het Kind uit 1476 te bewonderen is. De massieve geelkoperen lezenaar uit 1372 mag er natuurlijk ook zijn, naast talloze andere kunstwerken van de 13de tot de 19de eeuw. In de kerk worden archeologische opgravingen gedaan die je tijdens de normale openingsuren kunt bekijken vanaf een toeristensteiger. Naast de kerk werd een Romeinse toren uit de 4de eeuw blootgelegd.
