Bazel is een dorp in België. Het is sinds 1977 deelgemeente van de fusiegemeente Kruibeke, in het oosten van het Waasland. Op 1 januari 2008 had Bazel 5242 inwoners.
Algemeen wordt, op gezag van de plaatselijke heemkundige Alois Maris, aangenomen dat de oorsprong van de naam Bazel, of meer bepaald de oude benaming Barsela, een samenvoeging is van de Frankische woorden baar = bloot of woest, en sele of sela = woning . Vergelijk ook met de Belgische dorpen Beerzel en Beersel. Barsela evolueerde over Baersele en Baersel tot Baesel, Basel en Bazel. De heren van Barsela bewoonden het Kasteel Wissekerke te Bazel.
