In Nieuwpoort was al in 1910 een veerdienst werkzaam ter hoogte van de IJzermonding. Halfweg de jaren 1960 werden de roeiriemen vervangen door een buitenboordmotor en vanaf 1976 werd de overzet gratis. Vanaf juli 2011 opereert een nieuwe gratis veerdienst tussen de Paul Orbanpromenade naar het militair domein en dat van de paasvakantie tem 30 september, dagelijks van 's morgens tot 's avonds. De boten kunnen 50 passagiers en 20 fietsen vervoeren en zijn toegankelijk voor andersvaliden.
