Ten westen van de Zeelaan ligt de Dumontwijk, waarvan de Dumontlaan de centrale as vormt. In de Dumontwijk kan je nog een hele reeks architectonische parteltjes van de vooroorloogse periode bekijken. Architect Dumont kon hier in opdracht de eerste urbanisatiefase uitwerken. Dumont werd hiervoor bijgestaan door andere architecten zoals georges Hobé en Jozef Viérin. Deze verkaveling heeft direct een enorm succes gekend. Op het einde 19 begin 20 eeuw ontstaat immers een nieuwe mentaliteit bourgeoisie. Men wil weg van steden. Het is een uitloper van de "romantiek periode" (terug naar de natuur, panorama's; individuele vrijheid). Het exotisme komt in de mode. Ook de ontwikkeling van de hygiëne en geneeskunde die gezonde lucht aanraden is een aanzet tot het aristocratisch toerisme.
