De historische waterburcht dateert uit de vijftiende eeuw en is één van de oudste van het Waasland. Het kasteel werd gebruikt als Belderbos in het eerste seizoen van Kapitein Zeppos. De burcht maakt samen met theaterzaal Ter Vesten, de bibliotheek en jeugdhuis Togenblik deel uit van de cultuursite.
