De hoekige structuur van de Dörenther Klippen - met 159 meter een van de lagere punten van het woud -is het gevolg van verwering. Doordat er breuken in de rotsen zaten, was de verwoestende werking van ijs, water, wind groeter en ontstond een grillige vorm. Een van die klippen lijkt om een zittende vrouw. Die rots wordt hier dan ook "Hockendes Weib" genoemd.
