Het Gymnasium Paulinum in het Westfaalse Münster is het oudste gymnasium van Noordrijn-Westfalen en een van de oudste scholen in het Duitstalige gebied en in Europa.
In het jaar 797 zou de domschool in Münster zijn opgericht. Daarbij kan men echter niet op een documentair bewijs beroep doen, maar op een edict van Karel de Grote uit 789, dat alle kloosters en bisschopszetels opdroeg om een school op te richten. Dit zal ook in Münster, dat toen nog "Mimigernafort" heette, het geval zijn geweest. Het klooster werd in 797 door Liudger aan de heilige Paulus gewijd, wat wordt beschouwd als het begin van de schola paulina.
