Prieros werd voor het eerst schriftelijk vermeld in 1314 en is ontstaan uit een Slavische nederzetting op de Schadlischka-berg. Het later als rondeling gewassen vissers- en boerendorp rond een dorpsweide is sinds het begin van de 20e eeuw uitgegroeid tot een excursie- en vakantieplaats en strekt zich uit langs de wateren van de Dahme, Schmölde, Langer See, Streganzer See en Tiefer See.
In 1992 sloot het zich aan bij elf andere gemeenten om het Amt Friedersdorf te vormen. Sinds 26 oktober 2003 is Prieros met zijn circa 1000 inwoners een deelgemeente van de gemeente Heidesee.
