Basteibrug in het jaar 1920. De Bastei is al meer dan 200 jaar een toeristische attractie. In 1824 werd er een houten brug gebouwd om verschillende rotsen met elkaar te verbinden voor de bezoekers. Deze brug werd in 1851 vervangen door de huidige Basteibrug van zandsteen. De rotsformaties en uitzichten hebben verschillende bekende kunstenaars geïnspireerd, waaronder Caspar David Friedrich ("Felsenschlucht"). De kuurplaats Rathen is het belangrijkste vertrekpunt voor een bezoek aan de Bastei; de stad is vanuit Dresden bereikbaar met de raderboot op de Elbe.
