Rijke zand- en grindvoorraden werden door het bedrijf Gelsenrot sinds 1990 op het zogenaamde Esch langs de Rheder Straße gebaggerd. Er ontstond een ongeveer 16 hectare groot afgravingsmeer, dat vandaag de dag als Klostersee wordt aangeduid. Aan het meer is een landhuiswijk gebouwd, de herinrichting van de oevergebieden werd in 2004 afgerond.
