De rechtbank hoorde bij het arrondissement van de rechtbank Siegen. In 1979 werd het omgevormd tot een vestiging van de rechtbank Olpe en in 1986 definitief gesloten. De taken worden sindsdien door de rechtbank Olpe uitgevoerd.
Van 1878 tot 1940 was de rechtbank ondergebracht in het oude stadhuis dat uit de 14e eeuw dateert. Het gebouw huisvest vandaag de dag het Südsauerlandmuseum en staat onder monumentenzorg. Ook het laatste gerechtsgebouw aan Hohler Weg 1 is monumentaal beschermd. Beide gebouwen zijn opgenomen in de registratielijst voor monumenten.
