Hermitage werd gebouwd tussen 1880 en 1881 door Felipe Sainz de Veranda, gemeentearchitect, op de plaats van het voormalige klooster van de Heilige Martelaren toen de Paseo de la Ribera werd verlengd van de Molino de Martos naar de Campo Madre de Dios.
Binnen kunt u een prachtige vroegchristelijke sarcofaag van Carrara-marmer bewonderen, gedateerd rond 330 na Christus (Constantijnse periode), die in de kapel zelf is gevonden. Twee scènes sieren de voorkant van de sarcofaag: het kraaien van de haan en de arrestatie van de heilige.
