Dit plein draagt de naam van zijn stichter, een voormalige burgemeester van Mézières (van 1878 tot 1903).
In 1892 werd dit gemeenteplein tegenover de noordelijke stadswallen aangelegd door de werklozen van Mézières. Op een steenworp afstand van de schooltoren staat het bronzen standbeeld van ridder Bayard, 2,80 meter hoog op een sokkel van 4 meter. Eenjarige bloemenperken verfraaien de promenade, die doorloopt tot aan de lindebomen, waar bij mooi weer jeu de boules-spelers elkaar ontmoeten.
