Dieser Platz ist nach seinem Gründer, dem ehemaligen Bürgermeister von Mézières (von 1878 bis 1903), benannt .
Im Jahr 1892 schufen die Arbeitslosen von Mézières diesen Platz vor der Nordmauer der Stadt. Zwei Schritte vom Schulturm entfernt steht die 2,80 Meter hohe Bronzestatue des Ritters Bayard auf einem 4 Meter hohen Sockel. Beete mit einjährigen Blumen zieren die Promenade, die bis zu den Linden reicht, wo sich bei schönem Wetter Pétanque-Spieler treffen.
