Questa piazza porta il nome del suo fondatore , ex sindaco di Mézières (dal 1878 al 1903).
Nel 1892, questa piazza cittadina fu creata dai disoccupati di Mézières, di fronte alle mura settentrionali della città. A due passi dalla torre della scuola si erge la statua in bronzo del cavaliere Bayard , alta 2,80 metri su un piedistallo di 4 metri. Aiuole annuali abbelliscono la passeggiata, che si estende fino ai tigli, dove, quando il tempo è bello, si danno appuntamento i giocatori di pétanque.
