This square bears the name of its founder , a former mayor of Mézières (from 1878 to 1903).
In 1892, this town square was created by the unemployed of Mézières, opposite the northern city walls. A stone's throw from the school tower stands the bronze statue of the knight Bayard , 2.80 metres high on a 4-metre pedestal. Annual flower beds embellish the promenade, which extends to the lime trees, where, in fine weather, pétanque players meet.
