Migratie had en heeft een enorme impact in Ierland. Daaraan herinnert deze kleine stenen brug die lokaal bekendstaat als Droichead na nDeor, of de brug der tranen. Emigranten op weg naar Derry, waar ze inscheepten naar de nieuwe wereld, namen op deze brug afscheid. De brug inspireerde Willam Percy French tot het gedicht "An Irish Mother' en de folkgroep Clannad tot hun ontroerende "The Bridge of Tears'.
leren hebben het ook over een 'American wake'. Tijdens die American wake werd afscheid genomen van een familielid dat zou uitwijken naar Amerika, Canada, Australië of elders. Het was in veel gevallen de laatste keer dat familieleden elkaar in levenden lijve zouden zien. De emi-granten woonden bij wijze van spreken hun uitvaart bij.
