De te slopen voormalige defensiepanden Z18a en Z18b (Zuidkampweg 23 en 21) in ’t Vaneker bleken een paar- en kraamverblijfplaats voor dwergvleermuizen te zijn. Ter compensatie is dit vleermuizenhotel gebouwd, zo dicht mogelijk bij hun voormalige verblijfplaats.
Het hotel is ingepast in ’t Vaneker: de vormgeving heeft allure, maar is eenvoudig van opzet, zodat het opgaat in de groene omgeving. Het vleermuizenhotel is 6,75 meter hoog en is opgebouwd uit hout en metselwerk.
