Het unieke autovrije natuurgebied Gerendal tussen IJzeren en Schin op Geul en is o.a. bekend vanwege de talrijke soorten orchideën die je daar kunt aantreffen. In de maanden mei en juni zijn ze te bewonderen in de tuin bij de boswachterswoning. In het gebied kun je een kudde schapen tegenkomen die de kalkgraslanden begraast. Een paar honderd meter voorbij het boswachtershuis komt een afslag naar links waar een 300 meter lang bospad, de Gerende Berg, naar het hoger gelegen plateau van Margraten en de Keutenberg voert. Deze helling kent een stijgingspercentage van 10,7%.
