Nideggen Castle is located on top of a rock. The first stone of the castle was laid in 1177. In 1979, the castle museum was opened in the residential tower of the complex.
The area around Nideggen has many colourful sandstone rocks, which often give beautiful views of the surroundings of Nideggen and the Roer valley.
