St. Michael's Church is mentioned as early as the 11th century (1105) and originally belonged to the castle that was probably built by Frankish lords (then called villa church, belongs to castle and a courtyard). It may also have served as a strategic fortress at the thunder crossing. The tower was called "the belfry" for centuries and offered protection to those in need. Between 1105 and 1796, the Abbey of Affligem had the right of patronage over this church: it was responsible for the building, could appoint the parish priest and also managed the income.
