In den Wäldern links siehst du eine offene sandige Stelle. Hechtel war zur Zeit des Ersten Weltkriegs nahezu unbewaldet und von einer offenen Dünenlandschaft umgeben. Die ersten großflächigen Aufforstungen in dieser Region stammen übrigens kurz vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg. Der Domänenwald Pijnven (nördlich von hier) wurde 1904 angepflanzt.
