The church is built in neo-Romanesque and neo-Byzantine style and was designed by Theo Asseler. The building dates from 1868 and was originally the monastery church of the Redemptorist Fathers.
It is a three-aisled cross church with 2 towers and a large central tower. Both towers are 37 meters high. The central tower was added during an expansion between 1907 and 1909.
Since 2001, the church has replaced the St. John's Church as the central church of Roosendaal. The Redemptorists left the city in 2003.
