Atop the Kollenberg in Sittard lies the Sint Rosakapel. A small building made of brick and marl, with a great and rich history. The chapel was built in 1675 in honor of Rosa, the patron saint of Sittard. In 1668, a dysentery epidemic broke out in Sittard that claimed many victims. At Rosa's intercession, the contagious disease ceased.
The city council then promised to hold a procession to the Sint Rosakapel every year on the last Sunday of August. Sittard has kept its promise, and since 1675, this well-known thanksgiving procession has taken place annually. In August, you can also visit the chapel from the inside, between 2:00 PM and 4:30 PM.
