Il municipio nella Grote Markt è composto da due parti: il mercato della stoffa con il campanile incompiuto e il Palazzo del Consiglio Granducale. Perché il campanile non viene completato? Il commercio della stoffa subisce un declino nel quattordicesimo secolo e quindi non ci sono più fondi per completare l'edificio. Per duecento anni, il campanile rimane una costruzione grezza, fino a quando nel sedicesimo secolo finalmente riceve un tetto provvisorio.
