De Sint-Egidiuskerk of Sint-Gillis-Buiten kerk neemt deel aan de Open Kerken Dagen 2013 op 1 en 2 juni. Er zal een geleide rondleiding gegeven worden in de kerk tussen 14:00 en 18:00. Tussen 14:00 en 15:00 zal er een orgelconcert zijn. Meer informatie op: www.openkerken.eu
De neogotische kerk is een ontwerp van de gentse architect Henri Vaerwyck. Samen met de kerk werd ook het kerkplein en de pastorie vervaardigd in de periode 1903-1909. Het interieur was eveneens in de neogotische vormgeving opgetrokken. Tijdens WOI werd de kerk niet gespaard. Een brand in de kerk verwoestte een gedeelte van het interieur en de toren. De kerk werd onder handen genomen door de gentse architect Valentin Vaerwyck tussen 1923-1924.
