Guillaume Lambert, the Belgian engineer and mining professor at the Catholic University of Leuven who was a driving force behind the exploitation of the Kempen coal, was born in the village of Grand-Halleux on April 6, 1818.
Guillaume Lambert also rediscovered the source of the mineral water Bru, the exploitation of which had been halted by the monks of the Abbey of Stavelot during the French Revolution.
