In 1935, jam factory 'De Betuwe' was looking for new promotional opportunities for their products. For example, the male with a thick raspberry body and arms and legs made of red berries was invented. On Flipje's birthplace, on the Grotebrugse Grintweg where the factory complex of jam factory 'De Betuwe' stood, there is now a complete residential area. The statue of Flipje was made by the Utrecht sculptor Else Rignalda and was unveiled in 1993. Flipje wears different clothes at special events. The figure already has various costumes.
