Siamo sulla riva di un bel fiume della regione, la Woluwe. Come la Senne o il Maelbeek, la Woluwe è un fiume importante che segna il paesaggio brussellese. Più decentrata, difficile da valorizzare industrialmente nel XIX secolo, ha potuto conservare un carattere campestre. Il suo biotopo interessante è d'altronde oggi incluso nell'inventario Natura 2000. Offre vedute di alcuni paesaggi tipici della regione, costituiti da corsi d'acqua che scorrono lentamente in zone paludose, il tutto in fondi di valli allagate. Il nome Bruxelles, la cui etimologia si troverebbe nella parola ‘Bruocsella’ o ‘habitat delle paludi’, assume qui tutto il suo significato!
