Siden 1982 har der været et luftredningscenter i Rheine. I starten blev det drevet af Bundeswehr med en SAR-helikopter Bell UH-1D under kodenavn SAR 76, men i 1998 overtog ADAC Luftrettung stationen. På grund af sin nærhed til den hollandske grænse fik den "gule engel" kaldenavnet "Christoph Europa 2". Det er den anden redningshelikopter, der anvender tilføjelsen "Europa". Det skal understrege, at helikoptere i grænseområder ikke stopper ved landgrænser, men også kan behandle patienter i nabolandene. I mellemtiden er der allerede fem redningshelikoptere med denne tilføjelse i deres radiokaldenavne.
