Aquesta emblemàtica casa va ser construïda al segle XV, sent el seu element més cridaner el gran arc de pedra de 140° en línia recta a la planta baixa, per la qual cosa està considerada Monument Nacional.
També és coneguda com "Casa dos Velhos", per ser la residència de João Velho , il·lustre navegant de la ciutat, conegut per les seves expedicions al Congo .
A la primera planta hi ha la seu de l'Associació de Pensionistes i Jubilats de Viana do Castelo.
