Naturområdet er 29 ha stort og ligger på området af byen Oudenaarde og kommunen Maarkedal. Skoven ligger på Koppenberg, en 78 meter høj bakke, der rejser sig over Scheldesletten. Reservatet forvaltes af den flamske regeringstjeneste Agentschap for Natuur en Bos. Reservatet er anerkendt som et Europæisk Natura 2000-område og er en del af det flamske økologiske netværk. Inden for de europæiske naturmål vil der på sigt blive skabt 350 hektar ekstra skov i de flamske Ardenner; Kluisbos forbindes via Feelbos, Beiaardbos, Fonteinbos og Ingelbos, Hotond-Scherpenberg, Kuitholbos og Spijkerbos med Koppenbergbos.
