Koningshooikt, Stadtteil von Lier, wo Busbauer Van Hool einst als Fahrradmechaniker begann, was heute ein weltbekanntes Busunternehmen ist. 3500 Mitarbeiter bauen dort täglich an Bussen und industriellen Fahrzeugen.
Die drei Gemeinden (Walem, Koningshooikt, Lier) haben auch ein Fort, das Teil des äußeren Festungsgürtels um Antwerpen ist und zwischen 1877 und 1905 gebaut wurde. Das Fort von Walem ist ein geschütztes Naturgebiet, in dem seit Jahren große Kolonien von Fledermäusen ihr Zuhause finden. Andere Forts wurden in den siebziger Jahren als Taverne mit Spielplatz oder als Fischteich genutzt.
