Der Nationalpark Hoge Kempen bietet die größten Wald- und Heidelandschaften in Flandern. Wieder einmal läufst du hier einen kleinen Tag (15 km), ohne ein einziges Haus zu begegnen und zu 85 % über Sand. Nimm also etwas Proviant mit. Unterwegs bekommst du unter anderem einen wunderschönen Blick auf einen Kiesgrube, die teilweise zum Naturschutzgebiet geworden ist, auf die legendäre Mechelse Heide und auf die Kohlenstraße, die Jahrzehnte lang das schwarze Gold zum Albertkanaal transportierte. Manchmal fühlt man sich wie in den Ardennen.
Starten kannst du am ehemaligen Bahnhof von As, der jetzt ein Café und ein Zugangstor zum Nationalpark geworden ist.
