Das Hoogeland ist die Region über dem Reitdiep. Eines der ältesten Kulturlandschaften der Niederlande, denn 600 Jahre vor Christus siedelten sich die ersten Bewohner schon in diesem Küstengebiet an. Um die Füße trocken zu halten, wurden Warften aufgeschüttet und noch immer stehen die historischen Kirchlein auf dem höchsten Punkt. Schöne Ausblicke und freundliche Dörfer wechseln sich ab. Der fruchtbare Lehmboden zieht immer noch neue Bewohner an, denn ein Gemüsegarten, das funktioniert hier gut!
