Rotberg is a district of the locality Waltersdorf in the municipality of Schönefeld in the Dahme-Spreewald district. The formerly independent community is located south of Berlin near Berlin-Schönefeld Airport in the state of Brandenburg.
In the year 1316, the place Rotberg, founded by German colonists, was first mentioned in a document as Rodeses. Presumably, there was already a Wendish settlement due to the Slavic root form of the name. The place name may be derived from the German word for clearing as well as from the Slavic "rot," which means wetland.
